Their colleagues from their jeeps have been killed. It takes time for the army to realize what has happened but when the fate of the two soldiers is realized the army immediately begins a chase within Lebanon to try to find them before their captors, the Hizballah, succeed in concealing their booty deep in Lebanon. By the end of the day the news channels report that there are 8 dead Israeli soldiers.

The Hizballah, an organization funded and supported by the Iranians and the Syrians, have only one thing in their ideology - the destruction of the State of Israel. They have penetrated into the south of Lebanon and established terror bases in the settlements which abound in this mountainous region, forcing the local inhabitants to be human shields in their terror machine. Some of their bases are only a few metres from the international boundary that separates the two independent states of Israel and Lebanon. According to UN resolution 1559 it was the duty of the Lebanese government, through its army, to protect this border after Israel pulled-out from Lebanon in May 2000.

As the search for the soldiers continued, gun fights opened between the Hizballah and the Israeli forces. The Hizballah then started firing katyusha shells into Israel.

Thursday 13th July 2006……I take a bus to my work near Carmiel. We pass the entrance to Kadita, a small settlement in the shadow of mount Meron, and see firefighters trying to control a fire in the bush that has been caused by a katyusha rocket. A few minutes later we reach the Meron junction. Smoke rises from a field by the gas station, witness to a recent katyusha landing, In the background fires burn among the mature trees that cover the mountain. A small plane flies over in a vain attempt to extinguish the flames. The Hizballah are trying to knock out the radar station at the top of the mountain.

I get to the office and there is tension as reports on the radio tell of more and more Hizballah attacks on settlements along Israel's northern border. A woman has been killed by such an attack in Nahariya. In the early hours of the afternoon the radio announces that katyusha rockets have fallen on Safed for the first time in over twenty years. There is damage and civilian injuries. The Hizballah are trying to hit the Northern Command Base of the army on the edge of the city. Instead they hit an absorption centre where there are 500 Ethiopian immigrants and a Commercial Centre. There is panic in this ancient city, the home to 27,000 people.

In Kiryat Shmone, a city close to the border and veteran of the katyusha attacks during the 1980's and 1990's people start leaving and head south. Some have come to Safed where they have relatives. They do not have a chance to settle in before they set off for a safer place further south. Residents of Safed join the convoy of vehicles heading south.

The hunt for the captured soldiers continues.

The Civil Defence Command instructs residents of the north to enter bomb-shelters or protected rooms and stay inside.
Years have passed since the shelters have been put to their proper use. Some are neglected while some have been well kept as they have found other uses such as synagogues, clubs and kindergartens. For some the keys are readily available, others stay locked while a key is found.

Three katyusha rockets fall in Maj'd-al-Krum, a crowded Arab town to the west of Carmiel. They have no bomb shelters. Another katyusha lands in an open area in the western outskirts of Carmiel.

I return from work and in Meron the planes are still flying over the burning fires in an attempt to quench the flames. I walk by the site of the katyusha attack in central Safed. A crowd has gathered to watch workers from the electric company repair a damaged power line. Broken glass is scattered over this normally busy street and buildings stand disfigured. Only two days before the annual Klezmer festival was at its height and the main stage was 70 metres from this site of wreckage – crowds were uplifted as they listened and danced to the music that boomed from the loudspeakers. Now all that boomed was the sound of destruction. I reach my house and outside I see the neighbour anxiously pushing his wife and 2 children into the car, They are going to Eilat, not for a vacation but as refugees.

Fear begins to spread in the city and families are packing clothing and moving to safer places. Those who have no where to go establish themselves a corner in the nearest bomb-shelter. It will soon be night. We decide that we will stay. Our neighbour has a basement and invites us to join them. My 12 year-old daughter is suffering from anxiety but feels comfortable at the neighbours' with their children. Their son is due to celebrate his bar-mitzvah on Shabbat.

I go to the evening service at the nearby synagogue. We hear a loud boom. People call on their cell phones. A katyusha has fallen in the Artists' Quarter, by the Rimonim Hotel…someone is injured, badly. The services are over and we go home. Another boom, but this one is louder, it is closer. A katyusha has landed in the road by the Old Age Home. Windows of the parked cars shatter. The badly injured man has died on the operating table. More people decide to find somewhere safer for a few days.

The situation has clarified a bit. The Civil Defence Command instructs residents living north of the Acco-Ammiad road to enter bomb-shelters or protected rooms and stay inside. The constant humming of the helicopters overhead has become routine – just like it was up until May 2000.

Friday 14th July 2006…..a tense day as more katyusha rockets rain down on the north from Nahariya in the west to Kiryat Shmone in the east. More & more settlements experience kaytusha rockets, if not for the first time, at least for the first time in a generation. There is no warning…..a shrieking whoosh and then a devastating boom. A television reporter stands at the entrance to Safed in a live broadcast to summarise events. A katyusha rockets flies over his head and lands in the wadi behind him…..a pall of grey smoke rises from the wadi. Another katyusha lands in the Cana'an neighborhood damaging some houses. There are a few injuries and Mooki, the pet dog has died.

Shops and businesses did not open. Supermarkets opened but close early. We prepare for Shabbat. One of the boys decides to go to friends in the centre of the country but says he will return on Sunday. The kaytushas continue to fall…..there is a new development…..a rocket falls on Stella Maris in Haifa but there are no injuries. The range of the terror has widened. More people join the other displaced persons who have left Safed…..there is no shortage of offers from the centre of the country to provide hospitality. Our family also call to invite us but we are still determined to spend Shabbat in our home.

We light the Shabbat candles…..Shabbat Shalom.

The synagogue has a depleted congregation. As we leave another boom resounds in the air. We greet each other with Shabbat Shalom. We return home and await for our eldest son to return from the Breslav community in the Old City. He reports that they also had a small congregation, about a fifth of the 200 people who normally gather there to welcome the Shabbat. He tells us that he saw emergency vehicles where the katyusha landed - in the Artists' Quarter, by the Rimonim Hotel. Our daughter stays at the neighbours' and eats her Shabbat meal with them.

Shabbat 15th July…..the helicopters and planes overhead have become part of our life. Shabbat – no radio, no live reports. We hear the booms and there is tension in the air. The neighbours' son celebrates his bar-mitzvah but without his friends and only his immediate family.

Shabbat is over…..Shavua Tov our son calls to check that we are okay. We begin to hear reports of the events which occurred over Shabbat. Four soldiers are missing following a missile attack on an Israeli ship off Beirut. The missile was of Iranian manufacture. Seven year-old Omer Paschov from Nahariya was killed when a katyusha landed on his grandparents' home in Meron. He and his family had gone to Meron for Shabbat. His grandmother was also killed and the family were all injured. The range of the katyushas has also enlarged. Two attacks were made on the ancient city of Tiberias. One volley landed in a residential area injuring over 50 people. Tiberias, a tourist town on the Lake of Galillee, had been thought a safe haven. Where will people flee to now? Our daughter is still in the neighbours' basement.

Sunday 16th July…..I decide that I will go to work but only after I get my prescription filled that the doctor gave me on Friday, The pharmacies are closed and no one has an answer where to obtain medicines. Over two hours I check-out the matter until I eventually manage to get a few days supply. (In the end I bought what I need a few days later in Carmiel) By now it is too late to go to the office so I stay at home. A newsflash reports that a shell has landed on a train storage depot in Haifa. The Civil Defence Command instructs residents living north of the Acco-Ammiad road, Carmiel and Haifa to enter bomb-shelters or protected rooms and stay inside.

The carnage of the Haifa attack soon becomes clear. There are eight dead and over twenty injured. What has made the carnage worse are the ball-bearings which were packed in the shell and scattered with tremendous force when the shell exploded. More katyushas fall across the Galillee.
In the south Kassam rockets fall in the Western Negev and Sderot. The army has soldiers within the Gaza strip, which we abandoned less than a year ago. They are still trying to find the soldier Gilad Shavit who was taken prisoner by the Hammas terrorists at the beginning of the month in a blatant attack on an army outpost within Israel and killing two soldiers.

As in all times of crises in Israel, there is a sense of unity. The opposition in the Government declares that it will give its support. Offers of hospitality for residents of the north pour in from the centre of the country. By now reports say that at least half the population has left.

Omer Paschov and his grandmother are laid to rest. In the evening the media reports the names of the dead from the attack in Haifa.

Israel has a new front-line…..the road from Acco to Ammiad.

By mid-afternoon my 15 year-old son is finding it difficult to stay close to home or in a protected space. His friends have already left the city. Our daughter is still at the neighbours'. We try to put things off but in the end my wife takes the children to her brother in Jerusalem.

Monday 17th July…….I am alone at home, I go to the office by bus. Instead of the normal 3 buses an hour to Carmiel there is now only one. The bus is almost empty – most of the passengers are soldiers. The secretary from Carmiel calls in to say that she is in the middle of the country and doesn’t know when she will return to the office. It is quiet in the office and another work day passes.

The Civil Defence Command instructs residents living north of the Acco-Ammiad road, Carmiel and Haifa to enter bomb-shelters or protected rooms and stay inside. People in the Tel Aviv area should be alert in case of a change in circumstances,

Tourism has been badly hit. The almost 100 per cent occupancy at hotels and guest rooms in the area has dropped to zero and bookings made for August have already been cancelled.

I return home and prepare for a "quiet" evening by myself. In the background there is a regular, but dull booming. This is not the sound of katyushas falling. This is the heavy shelling by Israeli artillery into the southern Lebanon. An artillery unit is located near Meron and the sound of the firing resonates through the mountains and valleys of the Galillee.

At about 10:00 p.m. a siren wails out calling people to take shelter, However the actual time that is given between the siren and the landing of the katyusha is a few seconds. Over the next hour, the siren wails another three times. A group of us are standing outside the shelter when we hear a mighty shriek as a katyusha flies overhead. A few seconds later a mighty boom rings out as the rocket lands about 200 metres away next to a synagogue. Three people are injured by the schrapnel. In the same attack a katyusha lands in the grounds of the local hospital damaging a water line and causing most if the windows to shatter. It was intended the following to apply a protective layer to the windows!
The Civil Defence Command instructs residents living north of the Acco-Ammiad road, Carmiel and Haifa to enter bomb-shelters or protected rooms and stay inside.

Not only has the American Government expressed its total support for Israel, the participating members of the G8 conference in Russia come out with a similar declaration. The world has realized the ugly face of terror.

The Israeli Government has declared that there is an emergency situation in the north but this is not a war.

The news reports continue with the information that the range of the shells has widened to include Upper Nazareth, Migdal Ha'emek and Afula.

Tuesday 18th July…….I wake in the morning to hear our artillery firing shells into Lebanon. The airforce has attacked a suburb south of Beirut where Hizballah has established a stronghold. There are rumours that Nasrallah, the head of Hizballah, has been injured,

A routine has set in. The katyusha continue to fall across the whole north of Israel at the rate of 60-100 a day. Most of the shells falls in open areas and do not cause damage. Another shell falls in the train storage depot in Haifa but this time there are no injuries. A reporter comments that many of the sites that have been hit are more or less being hit over again.

There is confusion as to what rights people have if this is not a war – just an emergency situation. What happens if people do not work? Salaries? Businesses have not opened and supermarkets are working limited hours. Some banks are giving limited services.

The Civil Defence Command instructs residents living north of the Acco-Ammiad road, Carmiel and Haifa to enter bomb-shelters or protected rooms and stay inside.

Small units of Israeli ground-forces have started operating in Southern Lebanon trying to wipe out Hizballah strongholds. A few days ago Israel warned the local inhabitants to leave their villages. However the Hizballah continue to use them as a human shield and prevented them from leaving. Now that the Israeli land forces have arrived they start fleeing, creating a displaced person problem.

In the meantime more and more Israeli civilians continue to leave the north to become refugees in the centre of the country.

Wednesday 19th July…….It is now a week since these events started unrolling.

I wake in the morning to hear our artillery firing shells into Lebanon.

By now there is a kind of blur as the tens of daily attacks continue across the north and become confused one with another, It would appear that every settlemnent, Jewish or Arab north of the Acco-Ammiad road has been directly hit or a katyusha has fallen on its outskirts. The rockets also continue to fall further afield.

In the south Kassam rockets fall in the Western Negev and Sderot One lands in a park in Ashkelon.

In the Southern Lebanese town of Maron-Ha-Ras, opposite the Israeli settlement of Avivim, fierce fighting has begun as Israeli troops try to knock-out and destroy the concrete bunkers that the Hizballah terrorists have built, The fighting continues for two days and five Israeli soldiers, including the commanding officer are killed; a similar number is injured. The town is won over and huge arsenals of all sorts of rockets are found in the sports stadium and in mosques. Similar caches have been found in other places like the ancient port city of Zur.

Living in a bomb shelter begins to take its toll, Food supplies are running out, especially for babies. Friction alights between the different groups who have been forced to live in confined conditions for a week. Those who left for the centre of the country begin to feel uncomfortable away from their homes. The Home Front Command and volunteers do their best to bring some reprieve to these people who have been forced against their will to abandon their homes, even if it only temporarily. However, the thought lingers in every mind that perhaps the next katyusha will not fall in an open place but in my home.

About 1500 katyushas and other weapons of destruction have fallen in the north of Israel, Report say that this is about ten per-cent of the Hizballah arsenal.

The Israeli Government continues to declare that there is an emergency situation in the north but this is not a war.

The Civil Defence Command instructs residents living north of the Acco-Ammiad road, Carmiel and Haifa to enter bomb-shelters or protected rooms and stay inside.

A full week has gone by and the katyushas continue to fall,
Israel is united to once and fall for all, wipe out this new Amalek.

AM YISRAEL CHAI

The time has come the walrus said to talk of many things

when was the last time I wrote on here?
I have just been very lazy and every time i log onto the net and see my homepage i think hmmm when am i gonna actually get round to writing another of those witty and intelligent articles of mine.
where to start, im currently lying on my sisters bed (my grandparents have had my old room) in drearly old manchester. no comment about the city but cummon it is grey and wet most of the time.
pesach has come and gone and where all considerably heavier, nothing like your mothers cooking to keep you smiling.
got some nice likkle walks done and a bit of drawing lessons aswell, thanks Dad. eat more matza.
had interesting time keeping yomtov that wasnt and eat more matza, and most importantly sorted out my mp3 player wich for some reason one morning suddenly came up with a hard disk error. the annoying thing is the data i lost in the hard drive and the names that im gonna have to change from heb to eng grrrr.
thats bout it for now
to be continued
sometime
maybe
matza

בציפיה לגאולה
אהרן

Article from the daily telegraph

We were brought up to hate - and we do
By Nonie Darwish
(Filed: 12/02/2006)

The controversy regarding the Danish cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed completely misses the point. Of course, the cartoons are offensive to Muslims, but newspaper cartoons do not warrant the burning of buildings and the killing of innocent people. The cartoons did not cause the disease of hate that we are seeing in the Muslim world on our television screens at night - they are only a symptom of a far greater disease.

I was born and raised as a Muslim in Cairo, Egypt and in the Gaza Strip. In the 1950s, my father was sent by Egypt's President, Gamal Abdel Nasser, to head the Egyptian military intelligence in Gaza and the Sinai where he founded the Palestinian Fedayeen, or "armed resistance". They made cross-border attacks into Israel, killing 400 Israelis and wounding more than 900 others.

My father was killed as a result of the Fedayeen operations when I was eight years old. He was hailed by Nasser as a national hero and was considered a shaheed, or martyr. In his speech announcing the nationalisation of the Suez Canal, Nasser vowed that all of Egypt would take revenge for my father's death. My siblings and I were asked by Nasser: "Which one of you will avenge your father's death by killing Jews?" We looked at each other speechless, unable to answer.

In school in Gaza, I learned hate, vengeance and retaliation. Peace was never an option, as it was considered a sign of defeat and weakness. At school we sang songs with verses calling Jews "dogs" (in Arab culture, dogs are considered unclean).

Criticism and questioning were forbidden. When I did either of these, I was told: "Muslims cannot love the enemies of God, and those who do will get no mercy in hell." As a young woman, I visited a Christian friend in Cairo during Friday prayers, and we both heard the verbal attacks on Christians and Jews from the loudspeakers outside the mosque. They said: "May God destroy the infidels and the Jews, the enemies of God. We are not to befriend them or make treaties with them." We heard worshippers respond "Amen".

My friend looked scared; I was ashamed. That was when I first realised that something was very wrong in the way my religion was taught and practised. Sadly, the way I was raised was not unique. Hundreds of millions of other Muslims also have been raised with the same hatred of the West and Israel as a way to distract from the failings of their leaders. Things have not changed since I was a little girl in the 1950s.

Palestinian television extols terrorists, and textbooks still deny the existence of Israel. More than 300 Palestinians schools are named after shaheeds, including my father. Roads in both Egypt and Gaza still bear his name - as they do of other "martyrs". What sort of message does that send about the role of terrorists? That they are heroes. Leaders who signed peace treaties, such as President Anwar Sadat, have been assassinated. Today, the Islamo-fascist president of Iran uses nuclear dreams, Holocaust denials and threats to "wipe Israel off the map" as a way to maintain control of his divided country.

Indeed, with Denmark set to assume the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council, the flames of the cartoon controversy have been fanned by Iran and Syria. This is critical since the International Atomic Energy Agency is expected to refer Iran to the Security Council and demand sanctions. At the same time, Syria is under scrutiny for its actions in Lebanon. Both Iran and Syria cynically want to embarrass the Danes to achieve their dangerous goals.

But the rallies and riots come from a public ripe with rage. From my childhood in Gaza until today, blaming Israel and the West has been an industry in the Muslim world. Whenever peace seemed attainable, Palestinian leaders found groups who would do everything to sabotage it. They allowed their people to be used as the front line of Arab jihad. Dictators in countries surrounding the Palestinians were only too happy to exploit the Palestinians as a diversion from problems in their own backyards. The only voice outside of government control in these areas has been the mosques, and these places of worship have been filled with talk of jihad.

Is it any surprise that after decades of indoctrination in a culture of hate, that people actually do hate? Arab society has created a system of relying on fear of a common enemy. It's a system that has brought them much-needed unity, cohesion and compliance in a region ravaged by tribal feuds, instability, violence, and selfish corruption. So Arab leaders blame Jews and Christians rather than provide good schools, roads, hospitals, housing, jobs, or hope to their people.

For 30 years I lived inside this war zone of oppressive dictatorships and police states. Citizens competed to appease and glorify their dictators, but they looked the other way when Muslims tortured and terrorised other Muslims. I witnessed honour killings of girls, oppression of women, female genital mutilation, polygamy and its devastating effect on family relations. All of this is destroying the Muslim faith from within.

It's time for Arabs and Muslims to stand up for their families. We must stop allowing our leaders to use the West and Israel as an excuse to distract from their own failed leadership and their citizens' lack of freedoms. It's time to stop allowing Arab leaders to complain about cartoons while turning a blind eye to people who defame Islam by holding Korans in one hand while murdering innocent people with the other.

Muslims need jobs - not jihad. Apologies about cartoons will not solve the problems. What is needed is hope and not hate. Unless we recognise that the culture of hate is the true root of the riots surrounding this cartoon controversy, this violent overreaction will only be the start of a clash of civilis-ations that the world cannot bear.

• Nonie Darwish is a freelance writer and public speaker.

an interesting point

יג: ויּאמר מֹשׁה אל-העם, אל-תּיראוּ--התיצּבוּ וּראוּ את-ישׁוּעת ה', אשׁר-יעשׂה לכם היּום
In this פסוק lies a very important message,
"open Me an opening the size o a needle, an I will open for you an opening the size of the world"
Hashem tells us time after time Return to Him have faith in Him, take that leap of faith into the sea and He will do all the miracles, even if it means changing the entire nature of the world.
"Dont be afriad, be strong, and you will see the salvation of G-d"

piece of the middle east

So the Arabs currently living in the holy land want peace, Thank G-d, I mean with hamas, a “terrorist organisation” winning a majority of the votes in the recent election I think there might be a chance for peace.
Anybody who ever told me that the Arabs want peace has just been proven as naive, the Arab nation currently inhabiting our Holy land has just democratically chosen terror, what proof dos one need. In fact if we were America the invincible we might just be able to walk in kill everybody we don’t like and then set up more “democratic” elections with whoever we want to win as the only competitor.
But instead we are doing the only sensible thing pulling down Jewish houses and forcing G-d fearing devoted people onto the streets, I’m not going to say like Nazis but use your imagination.
I’m devoting this article to my neighbours living in Givat Ronen who because Olmert wants to flex his muscles were issued with their evacuation orders today.
We are suffering from a weakness a lack of leadership and social structure. A standard society in the “developed” world is made up of four types of industry. These are primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary. Primary industry involves getting raw materials e.g. mining, farming and fishing. Secondary industry involves manufacturing e.g. making cars and steel. Tertiary industries provide a service e.g. teaching and nursing. Quaternary industry involves research and development industries e.g. IT.
Each one in some way is dependant on the previous level in some way and hence is very hard to build a stable society without the previous level being firmly established.
Our small country in her 57 short years has managed to do things no other country has managed, including fighting several major wars, an ongoing terror campaign and re-establishing somewhat the Jewish pride. We have managed to develop out high-tech industry to be one of the most advanced in the world, our military advancements far advancing anyone of our size, and all this despite the fact that we a country full of Jews.
Here is the root of the problem, Jews don’t like getting their hands dirty and would rather jump the fourth stage, services, where they make money like a nice comfortable life and get others to do their work for them. Developing a society built on minimal foundations, unable to support ourselves agriculturally (I mean we did just give away several hundred Dunham of agriculture and exports in gush Katif) and being fairly poor in naturally occurring minerals, or so they claim, (with speculation concerning pockets of natural gas, oil and nuclear grade uranium only in the Dead Sea valley area).
In short we moved to far to fast, without establishing the appropriate structure necessary for a country of our importance.
Another problem is the unemployment trap or poverty trap. When the social security benefits are above the minimum wage, causing people to chose unemployment above working in a job where, they wont have job satisfaction ( so important in today’s western society) and often working in the black market to make a bit of extra cash on the side, but who can blame them they are Jews after all.
All this combined has left us with the next problem, where to go next
To be continued
journey's of a fanatic

Wed ended up being one of the stranger days of my life, being in trouble with the police twice (at least).

The first time was nothing of interest (a bored police officer stopping us for lack of ID ( a criminal offence in our holy country)) we sort of ran off in the middle of the inquiry. The second time is a bit of a story.

With all our bags packed (over packed in my case, not to mention I had been schlepping it around for a day or so by this point in time) we finally got to Shave Shomron (a very pretty place if I might say so). After finding some other people who where on the same mission (saving <st2:personname><st1:givenname>Eretz</st1:givenname> <st1:sn>Yisrael</st1:sn></st2:personname> from the hands of the Goyim/ arabs) we settled down to prepare some lunch and coffee (for some reason it isn’t a tiul without a coffee break at some random point). At this point in time we were notified that there was no way of getting to either Sa-nur or Chomesh from Shave so we had to get to Kedumim where there where organised groups leaving, just at that point in time some1 turned up asking if anyone was going to Kedumim and would take his jeep to there so I jumped at the occasion now having a free ride to the set off point.

After some brief prep talks and minchah we set of to a place called <st2:personname><st1:givenname>Avneh</st1:givenname> <st1:sn>Chafetz</st1:sn></st2:personname> where among pizza maariv and other things we met the other half of our group, half a busload of chabadnickim. The next stage was interesting, we went half way round the country to <st2:personname><st1:givenname>Mevo</st1:givenname> <st1:sn>Dotan</st1:sn></st2:personname> (which is currently in a closed military zone) practicing along the way what to do when we got to the army checkpoint basically duck and hide. With G-ds help (and the rabbi’s) we some how managed to cross the checkpoints with out being seen. Once we got to <st2:personname><st1:givenname>Mevo</st1:givenname> <st1:sn>Dotan</st1:sn></st2:personname> we jumped out of the bus and started to run through arab fields. To cut a long story short I got separated from the group along with a friend and decided that instead of heading through hostile arab villages (the army later told us they shoot at the army on a daily basis) we would head back to Mevo Dotan for the night, but before we entered we hid in a field for a few hours to give the group time to get to Sa-nur. After a bit of a hike we got to the gate to get into Mevo Dotan for some reason the soldier wouldn’t let us into the Yishuv instead called his commanding officer and before we knew it some of the big shots in the army came to find out what we where doing there, there were completely shocked that we had managed to get pasted some of there best soldiers. To keep a long story short we kept silent not even giving names or addresses etc. as we had been instructed. The army kindly gave us a lift to Machsom Reham where we sat under arrest for a few hours waiting to be taken to be questioned, at about 0230 the police turned up again and told us to go home and wanting to know who we were still offered to take us home we took up there offer for a lift to the nearest yishuv Tal Menashe where we pitched our tent for the night and that’s all folks.

Quote of the day

“Violence is the pleasure of fools and only the last resort of wise men. I felt the organisers completely missed out on the fact that it was during the 9 days with several pointless songs, (what was Benny Elbaz thinking, for a few seconds I though he was going to set himself on fire)(for all u sensible people who weren’t there he poured oil all over himself). At several points it felt like a summer camp/ kaytana with kids running round with flags and orange things (enough to cause an epileptic fit) not really the right mind frame for the 9days.

As ne1 reading this might have picked it was not m favourite part of this anti-transfer campaign.

How can we be relying on government employees to be running a seeming antigovernment campaign, why would moetzet “pesha” shoot itself in the foot or in the famous worlds of Alex the lion (Madagascar) “u can bite the hand that feeds u ” or is thus me being a cynic/ conspiracy theorist.

So apart from some random cynicism (maybe it’s the time of day/ week/ month/ year etc. (delete as appropriate)) what have I been up 2? Well the 9th of Av has been and gone I decided to stay at “home” eating with some friend over Shabbat and then staying in yeshiva for the day itself. An experience different to many of my previous years reading Aicha by candle light was very moving apart from when I spilt boiling wax onto my trousers and lots most of the 3rd perek. Then <st2:givenname>Rav</st2:givenname> <st2:sn>Melamed</st2:sn> gave a monologue for a few hours some interesting stories on the destruction with interesting political points of views thrown in occasionally. Apart from that the fast passed relatively quietly.

As if the fast was not upsetting enough the Government of our Holy Land has pushed forward with the next stage of its very dangerous plan, what will the next few days and weeks hold for us as a people? For me as a right wing terrorist (not my deffonition but as a anti-transfer protester that is my current job allocation)?
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left; direction: ltr; Many times I have found myself looking in on the city from above but never have I had the privalige to enter, even under the temporary control of the arabs. I left the yishuv at 11-30pm and after about an hr or so fo pushing and shoving managed to purchased a ticket reserved in some1 elses name for me and get on the bus. After several hold ups and more people getting on the bus, more waiting and more people getting on the bus (up to about 85 pple by now we finally entered shechem. under direct orders by the army we passed the checkpoint at the entry with the blinds down and as soon as we passed the soldiers we opened the windows and carried on singing, we were not afraid, we were in our land. Before entering he Kever a student of עוד יוסף חי the Yeshivah that was once there turned round and said maybe even for himself to hear, dont cry יוסף doenst want us to be unhappy. I had a lot of time on the bus thinking , prepararing what i was gonna to say / daven when i got there, the first thing i did was not as planned, I fell on my knees on top of the pile of stones that once was the kever and cried, it took me 5 minutes to shake myself together. I then let my heart talk and for a long period of time i just found myself talking asking, giving thanks praising saying things ive never heard before and will prob never hear or say again. over all a life changing experience hopefully the 1st of many future visits to the jewish city of Shachem -Aharon

יום הזיכרון

יום הזיכרון one of the more important things about being Jewish/ Israeli in my humble opinion.
What is its real importance??
An interesting point could be made. The law of מתחיל בגנות ומסיים בשבח usually connected with ליל הסדר could be applied here. To fully comprehend the שמחה של יום העצמאות we start with the more down to earth realization that this year there are those that be joining us at the מנגל this year there are families with one less place at the table (#empty chairs at empty tables where my friends will sit no more# (les misérables)).
It is a day or reflection of how we got the where we are now, of where we are going, a day of gratitude.
How many of us realized that ארץ ישראל is a gift we have to work for. It is our G-d given gift; it sometimes requires מסירות נפש to keep her but she keeps us in return. Do people realize her value? בהלכה it is permitted to made a business deal on Shabbat with a non-Jew to buy property in ארץ ישראל and even ask him to write the contract , on Shabbat, something the sages do not take lightly by any means.
Anyway it’s getting late and far too serious for this time of day plus I have to wake up early tomorrow.
Peace out
REMEMBER

History and the future the way it really is, or was, or just really confused ????? And what did בן זומה really say that changed the mind of ר' אליעזר?
To understand the problem we need to look at the גמרא ברכות דף ט עמוד א'
The גמרא brings up an argument between ר' אליעזר and ר' עקיבא about the final time for eating the about the final time for eating the קרבן פסח.
The following בריתה is used to explain both opinions:

רבי אליעזר brings a גזירה שוה he says just as with the plague of מכות בכורות the פסוק writes בלילה הזה and the plague was up until חצות so to here the same phrase בלילה הזה is used to imply that this too is up until חצות
ר' עקיבא turns round and says that we have already said that the פסח should be eaten בחיפזון with haste, implying the time of haste which is daybreak, (when the Jews hastened to leave Egypt).why then mention בלילה in the פסוק? To dispel the notion that like other offerings it can be eaten during the day.

The question is then put forward, how does ר' אליעזר understand the word חיפזון? Which seemingly disregards his פשט? The גמרא later on says that they both agree that the where redeemed at night and they only disagree with the פשט of the word חיפזון:
מאי חיפזון? חיפזון של מצרים This is referring to the night, when pharaoh wanted to rid his land of the Jews and the plague of the first born
ורבי עקיבה מהי חפזון? חפזון דישראל. This is referring to the day.

They seem to be arguing on a much more intrinsic part of the miracle, in the words of the בית הלוי:

ולפי הנראה, פליגי בעיקר הנס, אימתי היה העיקר
אם העיקר היה חפזון דמצרים, כשאמר להם פרעה "קומו צאו מתוך עמי"
ובמדרש איתא, שאמר להם פרעה בלילה "הרי אתם ברשותכם הרי אתם עבדים של הקב"ה.
או עיקר הגאולה הוא ביום שעת יציאת ישראל ממצרים

An interesting point can be made at this time, from the sources above we can see that ר' אליעזר believes that יציאת מצרים was at night and therefore seems logical to be saying the שמע at night, why then does he seem so shocked by the פשט of בן זומה? Because up and till now he has been fighting with the חכמים about saying שמע at night, now that בן זומה comes along with his פשט he can finally bring a פשט from the פסוק to back him up.

Now I a m able to return to my main point, what is the difference between night and day? Why does it bother these great sages so much? To explain this I would like to quote aמדרש

Very powerful words, and when combined with my next source a very interesting conclusion is reached
Later on in theהגדה an interesting observation is made. What happened to the 400 years of exile promised in the ברית בין הבתרים?

פרשת לך-לך 15:13

ויאמר לאברהם ידע תדע כי גר יהיה זרעך בארץ לא להם ועבדום וענו אתם ארבע מאות שנה

The famous answer is that the exile started in fact with birth of יצתק and that in fact 400 years was actually completed. But the בית הלוי brings up another answer which is really פלאפלים .

A very interesting point, according to ר' אליעזר when the פסוק says "צא וכבוש הדרך לפני בניך" when אברהם fulfilled this he did a קניין גמור on ארץ ישראל we then find that יצחק was actually in his own land, thus proving the fact that the גלות was not started from the birth of יצחק and that יציאת מצרים was not a complete redemption limiting the eating of the קרבן פסח עד חצות. But according to the חכמים who do not hold that walking in the land is an adequate קניין the understanding that the גלות של מצרים started with the birth of יצחק and that it was a complete redemption, hence until the daytime.

Now if I have time I would like to return to my original point the difference between night and day רב אי"ה קוק writes in his commentary on עין יעקב - עין אי"ה:

In this source הרב talks about to different roles for the day and night, the night a time for personal introspection and working on our belief in ד' and the day, a time for the whole world to realize the awesome power of ד' and His abundant kindness.

With this in light we could look at the גמרא a little later on in ברכות:
ברכות דף י"ב
כל שלא אמר אמת ויציב שחרית ואמת ואמונה ערבית לא יצא ידי חובתו, שנאמר "להגיד בבוקר חסדך ואמונתך בלילות"

These two ברכות are two sides of the same coin, ברכות של גאולה, in that case why are they split up?
The בית הלוי explains that the גאולה of the day is permanent and that the גאולה of night is temporary and in his beautiful language the בית הלוי concludes:

גאולה של לילה היא עוברת, רק מביאה לידי אמונה ובטחון לגאולה העתידה

פסח is a חג of ,אמונה safe in the knowledge that ד' changed the laws of nature for us many times in our history we can receive the hope and strength to continue the battle to unite our people and to return to our land

And in the words of the מוסף תפילה

a wise man once said

בס"ד

At around three thirty the busses plan to leave to many currently unknown destinations throughout the country and block the rush hour traffic with the intention to stop the snowball of the hitnatkut, suicide or withdrawal plan, whichever you would like to call it.
In my personal opinion it is a little drastic but the results will be quick and hopefully for the good. Historically the month of Adar has been the month when we managed to turn it all around, and now with knowledge hopefully we can succeed now. Some of us will fall some may even end up in prison or hospital, but whatever the outcome G-d is behind it all even if the unthinkable does happen we will have the knowledge it is what G-d wants. We don’t have to understand it but we will have the knowledge that we did everything we could to stop it

.גם זו לטובה

Mishe nichnas Adar marbim besimcha

בס"ד

So now we find ouselves in the week runnig up to purim, what does that mean to you?
to me it means lots of alcohol partying food charity and most importantly making other people happy and laugh.
i think that is one of the most important things in life to help other people enjoy this world, to make them smile and to enjoy themselves, especially purim time. The main mitzvot of purim is about enjoying the chag with other people, matanot levyonim, mishloach manot. Har av Melamed (rosh yeshivah at Har Bracha) mentioned over the shabbat a very interesting idea in one of his drashot, he said people think that one of the main mitzvot of purim is to get drunk, but this the missunderstand, sit on your own and go through a bottle of wiskey till u pass out on the kitchen floor and some1 comes and wake you up a few hours later is not in anyway connnected to purim, the mitzvah of getting drunk is at a seuda with friends and guests (and anyone else u find wondering the streets). one of my (only) fond memories of the Uk is purim wondering around the streets all hours of the night going into all sorts of houses doing a spiel (small comical song or play or both) and collecting charity for various courses, then getting really drunk and ending up at the yeshiva for a serious of plays and divrai torah till the early hours.
purim has another message to it though. Mordechai stood up for G-d he had bitachan B'Hashem, when haman told him to bend down he said NO he believed in his G-d and that HAKOL letovah, even when things got dark and bleak and there looked like there was no hope, he was so sure it took Ester to call the fast, hence the name taanit Ester. Mordechai and the nation were retur for their faith Venehafoch Hu, asher yishlatu hayehudim, hemo besonayhem, Hashem turned round the whole situation round the jews came up trumps and the next generation (trekkies beware) were able to return to Eretz Avot to rebuild the Bet Mikdash under the reign of Daryavesh the Jewish king of persia (wasnt he famous in his younger days for that most addictive of computer games????) (prince of persia for any one who didnt follow the hint)(prince before king)(lllalalalalala) (had to get atleast one more set of brackets in).
so for now i gtg but purim sameach
shiru lo zamru lo sichu bechol niflai outov.
shenizke lealot leYerushalyim hebenuya bimherah veyamenu im mashiach ztidkanu Amen amen selah vaed (now say amen)
-Mitnachel

something strange and remotely political

Today I saw a grown man cry!

Why? In less than 3 months he will lose his whole life, his house will be taken away from him, his family will be left homeless, all their property taken away from him, he might even end up in prison.
His crimes? They are multiple. He has sinned against the state, he has made daily sacrifices for the sake of others, he has been involved in daily bombings and shootings at his home, his property. He has been shot at on the way to school; he has put his family’s life at risk because of his lifestyle.
If I can I would just like to take a step back and have a look at the community he lives in and have a closer look at his family.

The community he lives in is really quite unique; no one ever goes hungry thanks to all the charity. A bride 3 weeks before her wedding unable to have an expensive dress finds the most magnificent gown on her doorstep, a boy with downs syndrome barely able to speak properly manages to read the haphtarah for his bar mitzvah. This community is one of a handful of almost utopian societies that exist I crazy today’s crazy world.
A little about his family; there is a daughter who when bombs where falling around the family home she hugged firmly her younger brother and whispered soothing words in his ear even thought she wanted to go cry and run to her mother for comfort. The mother a particularly strong personality, in spite of all this going on has kept up her lifestyle, even increasing the charitable things she does. She recently started helping out her neighbour looking after her house while she looks after her three children all in wheelchairs after a terrible “accident” on their school bus.
What happened to these 3 young children, what was this terrible accident that has deprived these young people of there lives? Their bus was attacked by terrorist near a yishuv know as K’far Darom. The community described above is one of the many “settlements” in Gush Katif.
What are these mans “crimes”?

He answered a cry from the state to populate an area of land for the sake of development. He works in one of the many hot houses in part of the areas agriculture. An economy that is one of Israel’s leading exports and one of their best known labels throughout the world.
Why is he involved in bombings and shootings? The answer is because he is an Israeli, but foremost he is a Jew. He is on the frontline, if it wasn’t for his community the terrorists would be that much closer to the main cities of OUR small state, they would be able to drop rockets on OUR major cities (instead of the desert).
Of course he worries for the safety of his family, what sane person wouldn’t, but he has a secret weapon, faith in G-d. I live on a hilltop in the fair land of the Hebrews, u and I might know as Israel over looking a terrorist hot spot know to the locals as Shechem (nablus). Yes I am one of those crazy settlers the press goes on about, (we want to destroy the world, break up the army cause civil war etc.) I am currently studying civil engineering in a college also in the crazy hills of central Israel.
I grew up in suburban Manchester in the grand old united kingdom, what a grim and dismal place that turned out to be, (all u people still there I would just like to know why?). I came home as a citizen on the 15th of Dec 03 and haven't looked back since. since my Aliyah I have spent several months studying the language and culture in the capital city of Jerusalem, followed by a few months living in the hilltop settlement of ma'ale levonah studying Torah and after starting my course in college I soon moved to a program of secular learning during the day and the studying of religious texts at night. And now I have got back to the beginning.
This being an introduction and a way out of doing my project that I have to hand in tomorrow I feel it time to sign out for now.
Live Long And Prosper
-Aharon
where i live

me
